Hi,

We just released a new version of the desktop client. You can update your desktop client in a couple of ways:

  1. Inbox2 checks for an update after 5 minutes after start (and then every hour) and will install this update the next time you restart
  2. You can force an update from the options screen (click the tool icon in the top bar of the application) and then on the options tab, click the "check for new version" button
  3. You can uninstall the application and then reinstall it from www.inbox2.com

A big thanks to everybody for submitting questions, suggestions and issues!

Here is an overview of what we changed:

MAJOR speed improvements during application startup
Lots of stability improvements all over the board
Lots of usability improvements

Take a peek and as always let us know what you think.

Thanks!

Here is an overview of what we changed:

[ADDED] Since Facebook does not support API replies, a message is now shown when replying so that the user is redirected to his Facebook inbox
[ADDED] Added the ability to run inbox2 as stand-alone app without installation, handy for people that don't have administrative rights or for running Inbox2 from a USB key (we will write seperately about this feature)
[ADDED] Added the ability to set Inbox2 as the Windows default mail client

[CHANGED] Removed the person details column from overview, moved contents of column to balloon that appears during mouseover on person name[CHANGED] Changed the way conversation participants are shown in single line view
[CHANGED] Labels views do not show trashed messages anymore, consequence is that if you press delete in a label view, the message will be trashed and also not in view anymore
[CHANGED] When deleting a message from stream view user is asked whether he also wants to delete the conversation. Single line view always deletes the whole conversation. When threading is disabled only single message is deleted
[CHANGED] Archiving now works per conversation
[CHANGED] Links in email messages are now opened in the default browser
[CHANGED] New popup style

[FIXED] Fixed a bug that caused errors when replying to status updates from the search column
[FIXED] Fixed a bug where Twitter avatars were not being received correctly
[FIXED] Fixed a bug causing sort issues when viewing non conversation views
[FIXED] Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the main window not to restore when minimizing to try
[FIXED] Fixed a bug that was causing application errors during message update to the backend channel

We have added a feature for adding profiles to contacts you are viewing. This means if Inbox2 isn't able to combine a contact for whatever reason you now have the tool to fix this:

Here is an overview of what we changed:

Added quick reply fields to message preview pane

Users told us that replying to email took to long so we made it faster, we added a field in the message preview pane that allows you directly reply to any message:

Added dockable stream columns

A much requested feature has been to allow the realtime streams to be docked on the right, well that is exactly what we did:

You can dock a channel by clicking on the dock button:

And undock it again from the columns view:

Changes in conversation threading

We hade made several changes to how conversations are built and shown in Inbox2. In the previous versions we showed the last three messages sorted chronologically (ascending). You told us that you didn't really like it so we made it to behave much more as a traditional email client.

Inbox2 now always shows the last message from a conversation and gives you the option to "expand" the conversation (sorted chronologically descending):

Also users now have the option to disable threading altogether in the stream view from the options > view tab.

The last change we made is to the single-line view and that change alwways shows all conversations collapsed, just like gmail does. We also show the number of messages under that conversation in this overview.

Cool search

Did you like the Inbox2 offline search capabilities? Well now you are going to love them even more. We have added something that we have called "cool search" and what this does is to allow you to search for the most important things in your mailbox right from the overview.

You can navigate with the keyboard through these items, if you instead prefer to do a full search (and search inside messages, document and status updates); just press ENTER as you are used to.

Product update notifications

We have added buttons to follow the different interaction points we maintain. Also you will automayically see hints when we post new things to these pages.

If you want to disable these notifications, you can do so from options > profile (tick of the last theree checkboxes).

Other stuff we have changed

[FIXED] Fixed a bug where Gmail would not correctly remove the very last label on a item
[FIXED] Fixed a bug where resizing the window when the home tab was not visible could cause the messages list to disappear
[FIXED] Reset layout works better (related to the previous bug)
[FIXED] View sitcher did not restore last saved view correctly
[FIXED] Imap string decoding caused spaces between names to go missing
[FIXED] Menus on XP had a dark foreground color
[CHANGED] Modal status updater now shows channel names, making it easier to do cross channel replies
[CHANGED] Inbox2 is now a single instance app, every subsequent start will activate the existing instance
[CHANGED] Single line view now behaves more like gmail with all conversations collapsed
[CHANGED] Changed the way conversations are shown in activity view and single line view
[CHANGED] Todos, waitinfors and forlaters are not shown in the labels editor anymore but given a distinct background color in the stream

We hope you like it, do let us know what you think!
